Rule 26Water Hazards (Including Lateral Water Hazards)
26-1 Relief for Ball in Water Hazard
My ball landed on the putting green side of a pond in front of the green, but rolled back into the pond. Where do I drop a ball to play my next stroke?
The answer depends on the type of hazard the ball rolled into. Under penalty of one stroke, if the ball entered a water hazard, (yellow stakes and/or lines) or a lateral water hazard (red stakes and/or lines), the player may play a ball from as near as possible to where the previous stroke was last played (Rule 26-1a), or drop a ball behind the hazard keeping the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard between himself and the hole (Rule 26-1b). Under this latter option, the player must drop the ball behind the water hazard (see Decision 26-1/1.5).

Breakfast League – Triumph for the Ashes
Colin & Debbie Ash chaulked up their 5th win in the Breakfast League although defending Champions John & Liz Ditchburn produced a stunning last round of 43pts to come up 1 point short.
Colin & Debbie were understandably nervous as John & Liz went out in 23pts looking like they may threaten their total, but dropped shots on the 16th & 17th ruined the Ditchburn’s chances and meant that they required 4pts on the last hole, Liz could only managed a par for a nett birdie and 3pts. 2016-breakfast-league-final-leaderboard

Andy Larkin & Craig McCollum win the prestigious Copthorne Scratch Pairs
East Sussex National successfully defended the Littlehampton Scratch Trophy, the winning Team of Dean Plant, Rob Hampson, Craig McCollum & Mark Hilton pictured below with the Trophy.
Important Notice to changes to course markings on the East Course.
- Holes 4/5/14 will now be ‘Out of Bounds’ beyond the white posts/lines and no longer lateral water hazards. This was changed to remove any ambiguity on a ball hit into this area.
- Hole 16 will now be a lateral water hazard (red posts) and relief is taken in accordance with rule 26. A ball entering the hazard may be dropped at the point it crosses the hazard, this can be adjacment to the the green if the ball has bounced back into the hazard, but not nearer the hole. Relief as per diagram.
Please ask in golf shop if you require further assistance, please remember that if you have any doubt as to how to proceed, play 2-balls and seek a ruling in the shop.

Bunker Lining Trial a success –
We have successfully installed a new bunker lining product, Capillary Concrete on the 13th hole East Course. We are now looking to implement same product on the bunker on 7th East and some of the more problematical bunkers around the course, this will obviously take some time to implement.
Congratulations to Jelina Fernando on qualifying for the Ladies County Championship Match-Play stages with rounds of 77-75 at West Sussex GC. Unfortunately, Jelina lost her quarter-final match on the 1st extra hole to Lizzie Price.
Scratch team disapointly lose in 3rd round match – East Sussex National 5 Mannings Heath 7 – Match result & report
Pitcher Team start defense of title with solid home win against Littlehampton 3 1/2 – 1 1/2.
Great win for ESN Scratch Team away to a very good Ham Manor side 8-4. The team is rewarded with yet another away draw against Mannings Heath on Saturday 28 May. The morning foursomes finished 2-2 with wins for Dean Plant & Rob Hampson and our young pairing Ben Jones & Prateek Rayasam. Tom Forman & Andy Larkin produced a great comeback from 3 down with 5 to play, to go up the 18th all square, only to lose to a great birdie 4 from their opponents.
Mark Hilton, former England International showed his class by dispatching County Player Josh Glossop 6 & 4, his win was closely followed by Rob Hampson defeating England youth international on the 18th. Defeats by Prateek Rayasam & Matt Hart put the game in the balance, but comfortable wins by Dean Plant, Tom Foreman & Andy Larkin allowed the impressive Ben Jones a comfortable walk down the 18th to bag his second win of the day to mark an impressive debut. Olly O’Hara & John Dichburn held their nerves as they made a par on the first hole at Ifield GC. ESN now play Sedlescombe or Chartham Park in round 2. Results_Sheet_Ifield_v_East_Sussex_National
Judith Dingle wins Ladies Spring Meeting with 37pts.
ESN Scratch Team suffered a heavy Friendly match defeat away to West Hove GC. Early spring greens, a stiff breeze and a young competitive team proved too much on the day. The emphatic 11-4 win by the home side highlighted some early season frailties around the greens. The Club were without the services of 3 scratch/plus handicap players, so there is little to read into the result and everyone remains very positive about our chances in this year’s competition. West Hove drafted in Professional, Jonny Ingram who was beaten by Craig McCollum and there were wins for Ben Jones & Mark Budd, there were also good performances on the day by Prateek Rayasam, Jordie Southgate and James Gietzen. It was clear however that West Hove’s young team will be a challenge for most clubs this season and they have greatly improved since their defeat at East Sussex in last year’s 3rd round. Play-off defeat for Men’s Daily Mail Team
against Royal Eastbourne in the 2nd round. The home draw looked favorable, but a close match resulted in a disappointing early exit for the 2nd year running. Wins by Mark Earley and Bob Patteson put ESN in front. With Jordie Soutgate & James Geitzen losing the stage was set for Staurt Silverlock to bring in the winning point. Unfortunately, Stuart missed his putt to take East Sussex through and so the match was halved 2 1/2 points each.
James Geitzen, Team Captain, went into a play-off. His drive on the 1st finished behind a tree, resulting in a bogey 5 against a Par 4 for the Eastbourne player and subsequent defeat.
Alicia Phillips and Judith Dingle moved comfortably into round 2 of the Daily Mail foursomes with a win against Ashdown Forest.
